As I was looking through the pictures on our camera, I couldn't help but laugh at Derek's goofiness and feel an extreme amount of gratitude for my family. On November 6th, Lucy was blessed. The following pics are from her blessing, Halloween, and random activities from the past couple of months. Derek's new obsessions are Legos, suckers, playing on the Ipad, and painting. Lucy is smiling more and more, especially when Derek is near her.

Reflections from Conference

The past few days I've been thinking about conference, fathers, and the well-known proverb, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" and felt impressed that I should write some reflections.

One talk that I enjoyed was given by Elaine Dalton (Young Women's President) titled "Love Her Mother". Here is one excerpt from the talk:

"How can a father raise a happy, well-adjusted daughter in today’s increasingly toxic world? The answer has been taught by the Lord’s prophets. It is a simple answer, and it is true—“The most important thing a father can do for his [daughter] is to love [her] mother.” By the way you love her mother, you will teach your daughter about tenderness, loyalty, respect, compassion, and devotion. She will learn from your example what to expect from young men and what qualities to seek in a future spouse. You can show your daughter by the way you love and honor your wife that she should never settle for less. Your example will teach your daughter to value womanhood. You are showing her that she is a daughter of our Heavenly Father, who loves her.

You are not ordinary men. Because of your valiance in the premortal realms, you qualified to be leaders and to possess priesthood power. There you exhibited “exceeding faith and good works,” and you are here now to do the same.8 Your priesthood sets you apart.

Fathers, you are your daughter’s hero. My father was my hero. I used to wait on the steps of our home for him to arrive each night. He would pick me up and twirl me around and let me put my feet on top of his big shoes, and then he would dance me into the house. I loved the challenge of trying to follow his every footstep. I still do.

So how do you raise a girl? Love her mother. Lead your family to the temple, be guardians of virtue, and magnify your priesthood. Fathers, you have been entrusted with our Heavenly Father’s royal daughters. They are virtuous and elect. It is my prayer that you will watch over them, strengthen them, model virtuous behavior, and teach them to follow in the Savior’s every footstep—for He lives!"

I'm thankful for my father. I'm thankful that he treated my mom with love and respect and that he was "true to his faith". The words that are engraven on his dogtags when he served in the army are the following: Dennis J. Lowther; Latter-Day Saint.

The second talk that I wanted to share an excerpt from was given by D. Christopher Waddell titled, "The Opportunity of a Lifetime". I love the story that he shared.

"A few years ago, Elder Javier Misiego, from Madrid, Spain, was serving a full-time mission in Arizona. At that time, his mission call to the United States appeared somewhat unusual, as most young men from Spain were being called to serve in their own country.

At the conclusion of a stake fireside, where he and his companion had been invited to participate, Elder Misiego was approached by a less-active member of the Church who had been brought by a friend. It was the first time this man had been inside a chapel in years. Elder Misiego was asked if he might know a José Misiego in Madrid. When Elder Misiego responded that his father’s name was José Misiego, the man excitedly asked a few more questions to confirm that this was the José Misiego. When it was determined that they were speaking about the same man, this less-active member began to weep. “Your father was the only person I baptized during my entire mission,” he explained and described how his mission had been, in his mind, a failure. He attributed his years of inactivity to some feelings of inadequacy and concern, believing that he had somehow let the Lord down.

Elder Misiego then described what this supposed failure of a missionary meant to his family. He told him that his father, baptized as a young single adult, had married in the temple, that Elder Misiego was the fourth of six children, that all three boys and a sister had served full-time missions, that all were active in the Church, and that all who were married had been sealed in the temple.

The less-active returned missionary began to sob. Through his efforts, he now learned, scores of lives had been blessed, and the Lord had sent an elder from Madrid, Spain, all the way to a fireside in Arizona to let him know that he had not been a failure."

The Lord know us. He loves us. He is aware of what we need. "His ways are not our ways" and he has a plan for each of us. How wonderful it is to know that our Heavenly Father is all all-knowing and all-powerful! My favorite scripture is Mosiah 4:9 which says, "Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend." I'm thankful to know that the Lord is willing to leave the ninety and nine to seek out the lost lamb.

I know God is our Father and we are his children. I know that because of Jesus Christ we can return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church. It is Christ's restored church with the same Priesthood authority that existed on the earth from the days of Adam to the days of the Twelve Apostles. I know the Lord calls Prophets and Apostles to lead and guide the church and it's members. Joseph Smith was the prophet called to restore the church and Thomas S. Monson is the current prophet. Both have and were ordained of God. I know families can be eternal. I know these things are true because of the Holy Ghost. I've studied these things, I've prayed about these things, and the Holy Ghost has confirmed to me that these things are true.

What Summer?

Life has been so busy for us that I wonder if there even was a summer. We are excited for Lucy to join our family soon. Derek will go up and kiss Heidi's tummy...and then he will come up and kiss my tummy:) Derek is constantly improving his language skills and it's fun to see him learn and say new words. Whenever we go in the car, he asks if we are going to see the "nunnel" (tunnel) and the "wata wataball" (waterfall). His energy is endless and he never stops. His two favorite things to do are play sports and read books. On July 23rd, Derek turned 2 years old. On that day, we went and watched airplanes and went to the Lindon pool. We capped off the day by going to Apollo Burger.

Birthday!

Summertime fun!

A lot has been going on lately and I should have more time to blog, but somehow that still doesn't happen. It seems like life is always busy. Anyways.... here is what we have been up to....
1. Keith Just started his last semester of school for his bachelors. He is taking 4 classes this semester. After this he will be finished for a while..... well atleast until next summer when he will apply for the speech program through USU. Way to go Keith.
2. We found out that our baby is a little girl!! (I know, old news to most of you) We are so excited that we get to have one of each. We feel so lucky. Heidi is almost to her third trimester, and we will be glad when baby Lucy finally gets here. It may be a long hot summer :)
3. With our growing family we decided it was time to get a new car. Keiths 2 door coupe isn't going to do it anymore :) We recently purchased a 2006 Jeep commander. It seems a little big now, but once we get the two car seats in there this summer, I think we will fill up the space.
4. Heidi is now a full time stay at home mom!!! What a great feeling that is. She loves being able to be home with Derek (and soon to be Lucy) and not have to worry about going in 4 nights a week. It's amazing how much better we are eating!!
5. Derek is growing and just as cute as ever!! it's amazing how fast they grow.

I know, I know, it's been a long time since I have updated our blog. I don't promise to be better at it , but with spring and summer coming I'm sure we will have more to blog about.
Derek is growing so fast. He is FINALLY in the 30th percentile for his height and is FINALLY even on the chart for his weight. Even if it is below the 5th percentile, at least he is on the chart. We were very pleased when we heard the Doctor say this.
He seems like he is trying to copy cat more and more words every day. He still has his own language and at least he knows what he is talking about, but slowly we are beginning to understand him.
I am so grateful for Keith. He has been so so so busy these past few months and is juggling everything as well as can be expected. He has worked so hard and I am proud of him.
As most of you know, we are expecting again in August. We are so excited because we know just how rewarding having kids can be. Everything has been going well so far, and as i leave behind my 1st trimester, I am feeling so much better. Good ridance to that first few months. Keith has been a wonderful help (when he's here) and I know it will get better from here.
As you can see everything is going well at the Lowther house, and we can't wait to get out of the cold and snow in a few weeks. We are going to escape to St. George for a few days for a much needed break. Just to be together in the sun and (hopefully) warm weather.

Keith, Derek and I had a blast this Halloween! It all started with keith running a halloween half marathon.

Keith did better than he had expected. He was hoping to get under 2 hours and he out did himself a a whopping 1 hour 48 min. Great Job Keith!!
Derek had a great time playing with grandma and grandpa in the truck while we were waiting to see Keith.

Then my Mom and Dad took us out to lunch at Five Guys. Talk about Yummy. Thanks Mom and Dad!!
After some much needed naps that afternoon, Derek went trick or treating with his cousins Shaylee and JayDen.

Then We had to go see Dereks cousin Maty.

Derek Wasn't sure what to think of the whole Maty being a zombie thing.
Then we went to grandma and grandpas house and the took him to a few houses trick or treating too. By this time, Derek had it down. He had so much energy for the rest of the night. He loved it!! (and of course by the time we got there, the battery had died in the camera so no pics.)
All in all, we had a great day.We absolutely can't wait until next year!!

We're a bit past due on our post. Here's a catch up of things that have happened lately. On July 23, Derek had his first birthday. Derek had a few crumbs of his cake but otherwise wasn't interested in it. He learned to walk a couple of weeks ago and is becoming quite the quarterback. I'm very impressed with his throwing arm. The pics on this post consist of Derek's birthday and summer activities.

Lowther Family Reunion

Keiths family got together up at the Heber Valley Girls Camp. What startd out as a three day weekend adventure, for us, turned into a day of fun followed by another. Derek was throwing up pretty much everything he ate. Despite derek not feeling well, and the continous throw up incidents, we had a good time. Here's what went on...... We did some obstacle courses that required teamwork and trust that were a lot of fun. We had to relate what we learned to the gospel. There was a zip line, but in order to reach it, we had to climb a 20 foot pole and make our way across another pole at the top. There were cabins that had bunk beds to sleep at night, but with dereks throw up mess, we didn't stay.
This was the favorite part.. at the time it wasn't....but looking back, I'm glad we did it. There was this giant swing. They harnessed us up and hooked us to a rope that pulled us up more than 30 feet to a tree, and then we let go of the rope, and.. well.. we swung!! Talk about adreinaline rush!! (I tried to put a video on ,but for some reason, it didn't work :(

We had like a three minute car ride from the swing back to camp, and Derek fianly fell asleep on the short way there. He was exhausted! Keith saw a doe and her fawn in our camp It was a fun trip and we were so glad to see Keiths family. It will sure be one to remember!

It's amazing how time has just flown by. Keith and I look at Derek and we can't beleive how much he has grown and developed. Each day has something new in store.

Derek has many milestones in the past few months. He has two teeth, and two more on the way, he pulls himself up, claps, and waves! He has become a little more rambunctious, and we have noticed he has come out of his shell just in the past few days. He'll move everything around the room from one side to the other, and he bangs on things, and he tries to sing! We love you Derek!!

Movin', Talkin', and Eatin'

I said I would post holiday pics...so here are they are...in February:) The holiday season was more enjoyable this year as Derek celebrated his first "everything". Derek didn't think Christmas was too great because he gets spoiled everyday!!! The month of January had many highlights. Derek began to eat solid foods. It was funny to see his face as he tried, and is trying, new foods (peas...yuck!). He finally has rolled from his back to his tummy and from his tummy to his back and is sitting up quite well. Derek has been a non-stop babbler for the past three weeks. He's always been a noise maker...now those sounds have become more distinct. He does say "da da"...though some may think that they're coincidental blabbings...I think he knows exactly what he's saying. In regard to work, Heidi has said farewell to her commute to Park City and is starting to work in Heber! Good bye 25 minute commute, hello 1 minute bike ride! My commute is 3.1 miles (5k), Heidi's is .5 miles (the distance I accumulate walking to the fridge and back in a day)...sweet! We've been busy getting our house ready to put on the market. We know the market isn't as strong as we would like, but we know that we would be better off financially if we sold it.

May I Have Your Autograph, Please?

Yesterday, I gave the students a card (with our family picture) and some gifts. They were so excited when I told them that Derek's pictue was on the card. They asked if they could get Derek's autograph. I laughed...not thinking they were serious. However, Heidi and Derek showed up after lunch. Again, they asked if Derek could sign their cards. When I asked who wanted an autograph from Derek, every hand went up. So, Derek spent 10-15 minutes signing autographs. One student did ask for my autograph...he must have felt sorry for me:)

Derek's first Thanksgiving

Derek celebrated his first Thanksgiving visiting both grandparents' houses. He missed Thanksgiving dinner because he was sleeping. His favorite part was his mommy's pumpkin pie:) Yummy!
Last Saturday Derek was excited for his first BYU Utah game. He imagined an action packed game full of highlights and big plays...he was wrong. It was so boring that he slept through the game...which is what his parents wanted to do as well. The game was BORING! To make up for the lack of excitement, Derek decided to have some fun of his own. During the game, Heidi was playing airplane with Derek above her head. As Heidi was talking to him, Derek decided to share some of his digested lunch with her...He spewed into Heidi's mouth and on her face. Keith laughed and laughed and laughed. Keith's dad had that happen to him with one of Keith's sisters. Heidi brushed her teeth and we got both Heidi and Derek cleaned up...it was certainly the highlight of the game.
Derek is 4 months old and weighs approximately 13 pounds and is 24 inches long. He has starting laughing...a lot. He must think his parents are silly because he laughs with them...and at them. Derek's latest adventure is snooping around the Christmas tree to see what he's getting for Christmas...he's just like his mommy!:)

A few days shy of his three month birthday, Derek had his first haircut. He was very patient and entertained us with some gas rumblings. He continues to always smile and is quite the talker. Heidi and I enjoy our conversations with him. Derek is sleeping from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m which we greatly appreciate. It is amazing to see him grow. We still stare at him and feel so much love for him.

Labor Day Outing

On labor Day we went on a hike to Bridal Veil Falls. It was so much fun!! We went with Keiths sister Kristi and her kids and Keiths brother Kyle, and his family and keiths mom. It was so fun to see the kids accomplish the hike, and boy was it worth it. It was beautiful!! It was Dereks first hike!! he looked so cute it the carrier. Everyone that walked by commented on how cute he looked. We think you'll agree.

Keith blessed Derek on September 6. We had only our immediate families come due to the nuber of people there were. It was a very special day for us and for Derek. Thanks to all those who were able to make it!! It turned out great (except for the wind).

He has arrived!! 6 pounds 3 ounces, 19 1/2 inches.
The whole process started at about 6:00 on wednesday evening. Heidi was having contractions that were about 5 minutes apart. We decided to go for a walk and wait and see if they went away or got worse. By nine that night were were off to the hospital with contractions about 4 min apart.
We got there and they checked to see how far along in the process she was, and how far she was dialated. She was still at 1 (as she had been at noon for her doctors appointment). We would have gone home but the contractions were close together and it was painful. The nurses had us walk up and down the halls and bounce on the birthing ball all night long, and finally by 7:00 the next morning she was FINALLY dialated to a 3. (It doesn't sound like much progress, but believe us.... it was). Since she was at a 3, they gave her an epidural and some pitocyn to get it going a little faster. By noon she was at a 4 and they broke her water, and things progressed very quickly from there. (Thank goodness). The doctor came in to check her at 2:00, and said, SHE'S COMPLETE!! We were totally shocked. I went from a 4 to a 10 within two hours after being up all night and not really going anywhere. We guess Derek made up his mind that he wanted to come, and he wanted to come now!
They rushed to get everything ready, and he was here by 3:09!! It was very slow to begin, but once it got going, it went by quickly.
We are so excited to finally have him here. We fell in love with him the first time we saw him, as we're sure everyone else will too!!

We all think that he looks a little more like Keith (except for all that hair!!)

This past weekend was a fun one for us. Keith participated in the "Wasatch Back Ragnar" relay race. He was on a team of teachers from the School district. They called them selves "NO Teacher Left Behind" The race was from Logan to Park City. It was over 188 miles. Keith ran 3 different legs starting in Ogden at 6:30 PM, Friday, which was 3.4 miles. His second leg was through the canyon to Henefer at 3:30 AM, which was 7 miles. HIs last leg was right here in the Heber valley, running through Charlston and Midway. It was 6.1 miles and he ran this one at 2:30 PM, Saturday. By the time his team finished in Park City it was pouring rain and hail. The team finished 307 out of 436 and their finish time was 31 hours, 16 min, and 6 sec. They went all night with no sleep and just kept running. Keiths next big endeavor will be the "Top of the Mountains" marathon that goes through Logan in September. Good Job Keith!! Keep it up!!

Ok, so I know that we are not very good at this whole blogging thing. So today you get two publishes. Everything is going great still! We are counting down the weeks and it just keeps getting closer. The closer delivery gets the more we are thinking about the little guy that will soon be here. What will he look like? Do we have what it takes to be a mommy and daddy? What is it going to be like to have a new born baby? There is sure plenty to think about. For the most part, we have everything set up for him to come home. Here are some pics of the baby nursery...

Here is the bedding. There isn't really a theme to the room, it's just all boy.

There are trucks, and teddy bears, sports equipment, a bubble gum machine, a jack in the box, and a flying airplane. Pretty soon there will ba a baby to put in it!!

Happy mothers day to all of you mothers out there!! I know that Keith and I are so blessed to have the mothers we do. I don't think we realize how much our mothers do for us. I've come to a realization, now that we are expecting a child of our own, that being a mother is harder than I think. I wish children would come with an owners manual. So, here's to you mom. Thanks for everything!!

Viva Las Vegas!

We had the most wonderful time on our trip to Las Vegas! We couldn't have asked for better weather, it was perfect!! We didn't want to come home!! Here are some pictures... Enjoy!

The Mirage had an Atrium that had the most beautiful plants and flowers. It looked like we were in Hawaii!!

We went to Hoover Dam, which was "DAM" cool.

Keith had fun gambling away a whole five bucks. He won $4.50, but ended up gambling it.

Here we are at the Venetion Hotel. This was our favorite one. We saw the Phantom of The Opera here (which was amazing) and we had a romantic Italian Dinner on the streets of venice.

So I finally figured out how to upload the photos to our computer, so now we have some pics!! This is me starting the 24th week of my pregnancy. We were pretty excited today, because I had some down time this afternoon, so I sat down to watch Oprah, and I felt the baby moving, so I was trying to feel around my tummy to see if I could feel him move on the outside. I thnk he got sick of me poking him because when he moved, I could feel it!! Keith came home from work and tried and he felt him too!! It is the most amazing thing!! He's been moving like crazy lately, he's has lots of energy!

I just have to say, that I have the best husband ever. What ever he sets his mind to, he accomplishes it. He has been training to run a half marathon in April, and he has been doing so well!! He ran with Sarah today, and they ran 10 miles!! 10 MILES!! That's a heck of a long way. I am so proud of him. He is so dedicated to whatever is important to him. I am so glad I have him. I know this probably sounds sappy, but it's true.
I love to hear him talk about our little boy, he is going to be a great Dad. Thanks Honey!! I love you!!

Where did the SUNSHINE go?

Man, it's so hard to even look oustide now days. The weather tricked us for a couple days, and now it's snowing again!! I've been getting the itch to get out in the yard and work. There are so many things we want to do to our yard this spring, but the weather is not cooperating. I guess warmer weather will be here before we know it.
We are loooking forward to our little get away next weekend to Las Vegas! Hopefully it will be good weather when go down there. We need the sunshine!!

Thanks to keith and his imagination, it looks like Nacho beat out the competition as far as baby names go. To be serious, we think we have come up with a name for our little baby boy. (We'll so if this one wears off like the rest). Our little guys name very well could be Alex Jensen Lowther. Keith came up with it, and I love it!! Jensen is Keith fathers' middle name, so we thought it fit perfectly. Let us know what you think!

Where Amazing Happens

This past week was a spine tinglin', jaw droppin', mind blowin' week! As posted previously, we found out that we're having a boy!!! Exciting huh?!!! Heidi felt the baby move for the first time on Friday. He is definatly an athlete... a mover and a shaker...our little offensive lineman! As of March 9th, the baby weighs a whopping 12 ounces. Heidi is eating a lot more knowing that the baby is a boy...even if her diet consists of girl scout cookies and brownies. The next big step is trying to find a name...any ideas? We have a poll with some strong possibilities but we're keeping an open mind:) Heidi is busy decorating the nursery and making blankets for him. It's an amazing time and it is only get better and better. We both turn our phones off on the weekends so we can sleep in...one part of the baby thing that we're not looking forward to...lack of sleep. We are both looking forward to that happy day in July when he is born.

Yeah!!! We don't have to call our baby it or he/she anymore!! We found out today that our baby is a boy!! We are totally shocked!! Everyone thought it was going to be a girl, and so did we, but nope!! We got our surprise. Keith and I loved seeing the baby in the ultrasound. It makes it seem so much more real!! We are very excited!

We get to find out what our baby is on March 9th!! I had a checkup last friday, and we listened to the heartbeat again, and the Dr. said that the baby's heart rate was on the higher end of the scale, and if the wives tales have it right, we may be having a girl. Now, we're not counting on this, but we'll just have to see on the 9th. We'll keep everyone posted. Everything else looked good, and things are still going smoothly!!

Hi there everyone! We are finally up to date with the blogging world! It's about time huh? Ha ha. We are so excited, because in about 4 or 5 weeks we get to find out what our baby is!! We can hardly wait. We have no feelings about what it is either way, but it will be nice that we don't have to call the baby "it" or ..."the baby"... We can hardly wait to decorate the nursery either. Once we find out, it will be a free for all shopping :). Heidi is due on the 24th of July, so it might be a holiday baby!
Keith is enjoying his second year of teaching the 4th grade. He is so good at it, and he loves it. He has a student teacher in his classroom (which is awesome for only being a second year teacher). He doesn't have to prepare to many lessons, because that's what she is there for. He is loving it.
He is preparing to run a half marathon in April. He is working hard at getting ready, and it sure is showing, keith is looking great!!
Heidi is still doing hair. she is trying to get it up and running from her house, but, it's a slow process. Hopefully by the time the baby is born, she can stay at home and be busy enough there to not have to go back to work in Park City.
Life is going by fast, but it's going great. Hope everyone is doing well!!
